We never set out to make a legend out of a man but we feel that it’s happened regardless of our good intentions.
Jack Murphy was an avid adventurer and explorer his fierce and weather-beaten exterior belied the soft heart of a wandering man. Jack’s spirit is best portrayed in his home town of Skerries and by the local icon of the Goat. A hardy and courageous animal who can be often found on a cliff side sheltering from wind and rain. The connection does not end there however, if Jack were alive today it wouldn’t be uncommon to hear people refer to him as a ‘Skerries Goat.’ A quaint nickname born form a local story.Legend has it that when St. Patrick came to convert the pagans, the people of skerries stole and ate his goat. When confronted by the angry saint they found they could only bleat in denial until they admitted their deed and regained their voices.
It is for this reason that the brand of clothing created by Jack Murphy proudly bears the symbol of the goat.
